Brief Description
Simei Care Centre is purposed-built rehabilitation centre that caters to the various needs of persons with psychiatric disabilities in Singapore, a place for wellness and recovery.
It was completed in December 2004 with a capacity of 120 residential clients and another 90 day care clients.
Psychiatric disability refers to a broad range of mental health conditions such as depression, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
The mental illness may interfere with the performance of major life activities significantly, such as learning, thinking, communicating and sleeping, among others, which results in the disability.
Psychiatric rehabilitation is a combination of services incorporating social, educational, occupational, behavioral and cognitive
interventions aimed at long-term recovery and maximizing their self-efficacy.
Simei Care Centre is one of two psychiatric rehabilitation centres operated by the Singapore Anglican Community Services, a voluntary welfare organization.
The other centre is Hougang Care Centre.
